01 Jun See video of hammerhead shark at Panama City Beach
Beachgoers at Panama City Beach recently had an up close encounter with one of nature’s most unique creatures – a hammerhead shark.
A video taken at Splash Resort in Panama City Beach shows a hammerhead shark – estimated to be about 10 feet long – in the water near the shore Friday evening. The shark’s presence caused several swimmers to scurry from the water.
The video was shot by Wayne Jones and shared with meteorologist James Spann.
Full grown hammerhead sharks range from 13-20 feet and can weigh up to 1,000 pounds. According to National Geographic, while hammerheads are fierce hunters, they rarely attack humans.
The hammerhead’s appearance comes a week after a video captured a shark circling an unsuspecting swimmer in the waters off Panama City.
